Small Good Moments in an Ordinary Week
Nothing special happened this week. There was no trip, no celebration, no big news. It was a completely ordinary week of work, meals, and errands. And yet, when I sat down to think about it, there were more good moments hiding in it than I expected.
I have started writing a few of them down, because ordinary weeks are what most of life is made of. If we only count the big events, we end up ignoring almost all of our days. Here are five small good moments from mine.
The first sip of a hot drink
There is a particular moment in the morning, after the cup is made but before the day properly begins, when everything is quiet and the first sip is still hot. It lasts about a minute. This week I actually paused for it instead of drinking while scrolling, and that one minute felt surprisingly close to a holiday.
A meal that turned out better than expected
Midweek, with not much left in the kitchen, I threw together a simple dinner from whatever was there. No recipe, low expectations. It turned out genuinely good, the kind of meal you feel a little proud of precisely because it came from almost nothing.
A message that made me laugh
Someone sent me a message this week that made me laugh out loud, alone, at my phone. It was nothing important, which is exactly why it was so good. A thirty second exchange lifted an entire afternoon.
The light in the evening
One evening the light outside turned that warm golden color that makes even an ordinary street look softer. I stepped out for a few minutes just to be in it. It cost nothing and required no plan, and it might have been the nicest part of the day.
Ten quiet minutes
One morning I was up slightly before I needed to be, and instead of filling the time, I just sat. No phone, no list, nothing. Ten minutes of quiet before the day started asking for things. I forget how rare that is until it happens.
Why I bother writing these down
None of these moments would survive in my memory by Friday if I did not note them. A week with five small good moments in it is not an empty week, even when nothing happened. Noticing them does not change what the week contained, but it completely changes how the week feels when I look back at it.
Try it with your own week. Just five small things. I think you will find them faster than you expect.
What was one small good moment from your week? Tell me in the comments — I genuinely enjoy reading these.
